Hi, I’m Angela Rozema, a Registered Mental Health Psychotherapist. Before becoming a psychotherapist I worked in business for over 15 years. Having a family, changing careers and school directions multiple times – I know what it’s like to adjust my sails. That’s why I named my practice “Adjusting Your Sails” taking inspiration from something my grandpa used to say (this quote is attributed to: Dolly Parton, Thomas S. Monson, Bertha Calloway, and more).
My Professional Life in Mental Health
I completed my Master of Arts in Counselling Psychology virtually through Yorkville University, New Brunswick, Canada. After completing an 8-month practicum placement with the former, Family Counselling and Support Services – Guelph Wellington, I graduated in 2020. In addition, I have also worked for a mental health team as part of a doctor’s office. During this time my husband, a retired volunteer firefighter, two older step-daughters and I welcomed a couple of young people into the world!
This is partly how I developed a special interest in helping professionals which fueled my interest in trauma therapy. I enjoy helping individuals apply a process to help them unravel the chaos that is trauma. If you struggle with trauma – it doesn’t just go away, often it gets worse and life becomes more isolating. But trauma doesn’t mark the end of an enjoyable healthy life. It requires extra effort and time to incorporate the traumatic experience into a person’s sense of self. Easier said than done, but possible. Sound like mumbo jumbo? Check out this quick video on what trauma is and how it affects us (it is based in Australia).
Continued Mental Health Therapist Development
With my varied career background I have a unique interest in helping people find their professional and personal path. This might mean working through career surveys and other processes to find your dream job. Or it might mean adjusting your sails to the current career you have. We spend so much time at our work, it’s vital to enjoy what you do. Let me help you explore your options, connect today for a free 15-minute session!
In addition to helping with trauma and career paths I enjoy working with teachers, students, elderly and with people struggling with anxiety, depression, family-life issues and more. Not sure if we’re the right fit – try a free 15-minute session to ask more questions!
Currently, my practice is offered part-time with Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday availability, and other possible times on a case-by-case basis. All services are offered virtually with the opportunity for audio (just over the phone) or face-to-face-virtual (smartphone, laptop, computer, etc.) sessions.
Thank you for taking the time to read this bio and I look forward to working together soon.
